Unfortunately, Europe has become very expensive since Corona. In particular, of course, the accommodations in the big, well-known cities and hotspots. That's why many Europeans are now traveling to Southeast Asia.

Good points. We spent 5 weeks in Andalusia in December/January and most of the time we had nice weather, and it is wonderful to swim in the sea and eat outside, walk outside in January. But in summer you won't generally see me in southern Europe, it just gets too hot for my northern skin. Andalusia, apart from some ugly mass tourism areas, is a very interesting part of Spain, with lots of culture, good food and wine and friendly people.

The cancelled NHR might come back. Two things that you missed. One, due to a couple of reasons, getting permission to move there is now really, really slow due to backups. Second, it's expensive and not always easy to find a place to rent almost anywhere in a decent town. If you want a vehicle and are willing to live in the countryside, it's really inexpensive but then you don't have easy access to services and kind of alone. I've even found places in France (obviously not Paris) at about half the price than in the desirable towns of Portugal!

Been watching your channel for years now. I always enjoy them ... and your travels. I think that many Americans ... dissatisfied with life in the US, take a lot we have for granted. I've traveled a lot in the past, got a job offer in the Land Down Under, been to Mexico multiple times, BUT, I've seen more than enough to convince me to never move there. A fun place to visit ... warm and friendly people .... as was your observation in Ecuador, but making any of those places "home"? No thank you. I love Italy ... the land of my ancestors ... on both sides. I would really love to spend the rest of my life there, BUT, I wonder how much I would be giving up in the US for a "better life" in Italy.

Small population of 2.8m people. However, Corruption continues to be a complex and pervasive challenge in Albania, impeding economic growth and damaging the faith of citizens in government. Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index ranked Albania as the most corrupt country in Europe yet again this year. That is a big tax on citizens and residents. Probably an acceptable situation as a tourist.

I pay $800 a month in lodging (including internet and electric) for my large 1br apt in a small city (50k residents) in a US state where the climate is temperate. I'm 20-40 minutes away from various minor cities and 1 hr away from a major city with an international airport. Of course if i lived with a significant other, thatd be cut in half. So I dont see the advantage of this lifestyle or moving abroad for someone in my situation.

As we're planning long term travel in Europe next year, the accommodations have been something of a revelation with costs averaging about $2,200 - $2,300 a month and that's off season, although we're seeing some more expensive places with no lower cost areas like Albania thrown in.

As a plant based eater myself - as well as gluten free - I’d love to know how well you are able to eat out at restaurants with this way of eating? I’d also love to know some of your favorite recipes that you make at your air bnbs. I hear they are notoriously limited in kitchen supplies.

    • @AmeliaAndJP

Gluten free is a bigger challenge than plant based when eating out. We haven’t found it very difficult, but we eat a lot of Indian and Thai food. We cook a lot of steam fries and pasta dishes at the Airbnbs. We usually buy some sort of spicy sauce for the seasoning since most places don’t have any spices.

Yes, with money.... subscribers ....if you figured it out correctly and got .3 of a month, instead of 3 weeks, great ! I thought you are fussy numbers, articulate guy . Amelia....maintainence bill getting high, hahaha What the heck, you are not in the jungle anymore. Brave to slow travel, rather than sitting , and being used to one place. For me, I like to communicate with people , and settle in . I haven't had same medical problem, but for one and a half (1 1/2) years.....yes....1.5 years...have back injuries, pain, have to make huge changes to manage living in Mexico again. Good for you J.P. You always are optimistic, and your beautiful gal , and her electrifying smile...... and let's face it, Amelia has excellant choice in blouses, shirts.....right amount of material--to--skin--ratio , since we are talking math. More than .3 , or 3% skin I'd say, haha Keep up the good work . No idea why you like to do it. I have bad back, so you can't pick on me, hahahaha Glad you make the best of it all. Thanks for taking the time......and I bet it took awhile to figure out, yes ?

When you explained the cost of your crown, blew me away. Just had a root canal in US and a crown and is unbelievably expensive. Should have taken a vacation to Mexico since I am reviewing/ considering leaving the US even at 73 years old. Have reached my limit of patience here in the US with all that is happening. Having gone to school in Spain many years ago, is a consideration. Enjoy your videos but in a sense is frustrating in that I am not sure I will ever have the guts to actually leave the US at my age. But cost of living is a consideration because I would love to do more, sit in a park as I used to in Spain, walk to stores, travel but mostly feel safer. Thanks for your information. Watching you (ya'll) for a long time...Living in metro Atlanta so "ya'll" is really English. LOL>

I know from a previous video, you talked about finding a European city to make your home while away from Ecuador. I get you have to travel around before you find where you want to be, but if you do settle down someplace with occasional train (or inexpensive plane) travels to other countries, costs will go down. I was reading last night that rent in Italy is about 151% cheaper than renting in the U.S., with an overall cost of living that is around 45% less. I am sure these cheaper rents do not include Rome or Milan however!

@@AmeliaAndJP My father was a tour operator in Germany, with a specialization in doing european tours for the canadian soldiers serving in Europe. So we traveled by bus with a group of canadian soldiers through the whole balkan area. From Hungary, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Albania down to Greece in 3 and a half week. Nobody found this strange and if you apply for a visa they didn't care who visited. But Albania was the one country who put two own tour guides into our bus from entering to leaving the country observing us and themself. The customs was slow but gave us less trouble then the TSA in La Guardia does today. By the way, there is no problem visiting North Korea today. It's only a problem what you are allowed to see. And thats how it was at that time in Albania too.
